The western and central areas of the state of Maharashtra suffered the most, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD). A heatwave warning was issued for Raigad, Mumbai suburb and Thane for April 28. Colaba observatory (representative of south Mumbai) recorded 34.4 degrees Celsius, one degree above the normal.
