Patrick joined the RAF aged 19 and was to have a varied career. Initially a Radar Operator in a squadron of Whitley's flying out from Northern Ireland to detect U-Boats.Patrick then switched to Air Sea Rescue before finishing his career in the RAF flying the de Havilland Mosquito, one of the world's first successful multi-role combat aircraft. Patrick was to fly many bombing missions, including targeting submarines, ports and ships in German occupied Norway.
