Description: Cherry blossoms- SAKURA as they are called in Japanese, have been depicted for thousands of years in works of art from poetry to screen paintings, but in my first year living in Japan I didn't really know what to expect when the trees actually bloomed in early April. But the excitement became palpable as soon as the first buds began appearing in my city of Fukui. Soon the trees would resemble fluffy white clouds or cotton candy.
