_worlds-first-jet-powered-amish-buggy.webp "AN AMISH BUGGY that would normally be drawn by horses has been fitted with a turbo jet engine. “It’s like oil and water, they should not go together,” jokes its creator Chad Clark. The outrageous project, built by Chad Clark and Mike Monter of Millersburg, Ohio was originally meant to be something very different. “Mike and I were at our local county fair, I mentioned it would be really cool to build a turbine-powered four-wheel drive pulling truck,” Chad explained. But the auction description had misrepresented the engine as a turbo shaft engine. “I went home that night, found an engine online and bought it but didn’t realise it was not turboshaft, it was turbojet only,” Chad remembers. They ended up having to use a much lighter vehicle instead of the original truck. “We live in the Amish capital of the world so we figured an Amish buggy would be perfect,” Chad said. Co-creator Mike Monter told Future Studios Cars: “He called me up, said we’re not doing a pulling truck anymore, we’re doing an Amish buggy – seemed natural.” The build and modifications cost around $30,000 and took roughly 700 hours of labour to complete: “Many all-nighters,” Chad said. When out in public, people struggle to believe the bizarre creation actually works. “When people see the Thunder Buggy they can’t believe their eyes and the first question is, does it really move? Yes it does,” explained Chad. Traditionally, these buggies would have been moved by horses so this particular one is far from conventional. “The buggy is not designed to take 100 feet of electrical wiring, fuel tanks and a jet engine,” Chad admitted. With a top speed of 65 miles per hour before the wheels start shaking, this exhibition-only vehicle was not built for speed: “It’s a really simple engine design, it’s some pretty awesome engineering from back in the 40s,” explained Chad.")

_how-pembrokeshire39s-e-bike-scheme-works.webp "Pembrokeshire County Council have already had a rethink regarding aspects of the E-bike scheme, to reduce the chances of anti-social behaviour.<br/>The ‘Pay as you go’ E-bikes trial was launched in Pembrokeshire last month, with a fleet of E-bikes provided for members of the public to use for ‘commuting, leisure and local activities’ - with users. able to collect and leave the bikes at a series of pick-up and drop-off sites around the towns of Tenby, Haverfordwest, Fishguard and Goodwick.<br/>However, the initiative has already been met with scepticism by members of the public, as well as councillors, with many pointing out potential issues that the scheme might bring, expressing concerns on the E-bikes being ‘dumped’ away from their designated drop-off points, and others already highlighting late night revellers using them during the early hours of the morning, whilst clearly a bit tipsy!<br/>Once the scheme got underway, Tenby’s County Councillor for the South ward, Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall said she was none too pleased with a ‘bike bay’ being positioned up against the historic Town Walls of the seaside town.<br/>“I do have concerns about the scheme in general. I know that they work very well in some places but I am not sure about in Tenby,” she said.<br/>“I am especially concerned about them within the Town Walls during pedestrianisation and other busy periods.”<br/>Locations the E-bikes are available from, include - Tenby Railway Station and South/North Beach car parks.<br/>Providing an update on the Zipp E-bike trial on their Facebook page this week, Pembrokeshire County Council posted: “To reduce the chances of anti-social behaviour, bike hire will not be available between midnight Friday to 5am Saturday and midnight Saturday to 5am Sunday.<br/>“A handy new pick-up and drop-off bay has also been added at Withybush Hospital.<br/>“It’s been great to see so many of you hopping on the bikes. _pembrokeshire-council-to-carry-out-39pooch-patrols39-for-breaches-of-beach-byelaws.webp "Pembrokeshire County Council have confirmed that WISE enforcement officers will be carrying out patrols for breaches of beach byelaws with the annual restrictions on dogs running from the start of May to the end of September.<br/>Despite being known to many as ‘dog friendly Pembrokeshire’ - the Local Authority still likes to restrict pet pooches from many of the the county’s beaches during the holiday season, between May 1 and September 30 each year.<br/>PCC state that the bye-laws prohibiting dogs from areas of certain beaches exist primarily to protect the interests of bathers during the summer season.<br/>Partial beach bans are in place on the following: Saundersfoot beach; Tenby Castle and South Beach; Lydstep; Newgale; Amroth; Poppit Sands; Broadhaven North; Dale; whilst Tenby’s North Beach and Whitesands in St Davids are the subject of total dog bans.<br/>PCC has confirmed that WISE (Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement) officers will be carrying out patrols on beaches alongside their other routes, with breaches of beach byelaws part of their contracted duties.<br/>A Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) of £75 can be issued for anyone breaking the restrictions. Guide Dogs are exempt.<br/>“The intention is for beaches to be patrolled and enforcement of beach byelaws to be carried out where necessary,” said a spokesperson for PCC.<br/>“As always we would prefer not to have to enforce and would urge all those visiting beaches to follow local signage and familiarise themselves with the details of where dogs are allowed and not allowed.”<br/>Some have labelled the policy as ‘draconian’ with Tenby councillor Duncan Whitehurst suggesting in recent year an idea to amend the times dogs are allowed on areas such as North Beach, rather than a total prohibition for five months of the year.<br/>Bans in other seaside resorts across the UK, such as Cornwall, only have restrictions on beaches between ‘peak times’ such as between 10 am and 6 pm.<br/>In relation to Saundersfoot’s main beach, County Councillor for the south ward, Cllr Chris Williams has engaged with holiday companies, and asked them to remind visitors of the restrictions, especially properties along The Strand that have access to the beach within the dog enforcement area.<br/>“I feel communication is the best way forward on this - but persistent individuals who ignore the rules will be subject to the enforcement team patrolling our beaches and villages,” he explained.<br/>More information can be found at: https://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/dog-control/summer-beach-bans")
