Palestine was again canceled from becoming a full member of the United Nations in a voting session by the United Nations Security Council on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Palestine was previously proposed to become a full member of the United Nations by Algeria.<br/><br/>Based on this proposal, the United Nations Security Council then held a vote, which was attended by China, France, Russia, Britain, and the United States, as well as 10 non-permanent members elected by the General Assembly for a two-year term. The current non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council are Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, South Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Switzerland.<br/><br/>In the vote, 12 countries agreed, while Switzerland and the UK abstained. However, the United States used its veto power to reject the proposal for Palestine to become a permanent member of the United Nations. This rejection made the Security Council fail to recommend that the United Nations General Assembly hold a vote for all member states to allow Palestine to join as a full member. So what is the reason why the United States rejects Palestine's full membership in the United Nations?<br/><br/>United States Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood said the use of the veto power did not reflect rejection of a Palestinian state. However, the veto was given because he believed that recognition of a Palestinian state could only occur through direct negotiations between the two parties to the conflict, namely Palestine and Israel.<br/><br/>However, the United States expressed support for implementing a two-state solution that could result in a peace agreement.\
