Madness ensues when a 'Player' in the world of romantic relationships finds a girl who's a worthy opponent. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is a film that believes Love is a battle of wits.<br/>Mickey, a carefree businessman and womaniser, helps couples break up. However, things change for him when he falls for Tinni, a witty and beautiful chartered accountant.<br/>Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia, Boney Kapoor<br/><br/>In a normal universe, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is about a ‘boy’ and a ‘girl’ who fall in love only to realize that they want different things from life. Breaking up is a problem because they’re not Gen Z enough to ghost each other. At most, they hang around in the relationship until the love dissipates. Anything to not have “the talk”. In this normal universe, the film is certainly not called Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, or anything on the lines of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Pyaar Ka Punchnama. But in Luv Ranjan’s universe, this same story is a bitter battle of sexes between a good-looking boy and a gorgeous girl who tries to leave him because – horror of horrors – she likes her independence and his family is too overbearing.<br/><br/>You can’t say Ranjan isn’t trying. If anything, this is him reacting to the criticism – that is, the (correct) accusations of casual misogyny bubble-wrapped in crowd-pleasing comedy – of his previous movies. You see, the women in those movies (Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety) were scheming, conniving caricatures who forced their boyfriends to choose between bromance and romance. Love was a messy war of ownership. But here, the conflict is centered on the woman’s inability to be cruel and manipulative; she is too evolved to be the quintessential Luv Ranjan heroine. (Coincidentally, actress Shraddha Kapoor’s breakout film, from 2011, was called Luv Ka The End). Her Nisha in this film is so nice that, rather than force poor Rohan (Ranbir Kapoor) to choose between his family and her, she attempts to do the nobler thing: Gaslight him into believing he’s the issue. Nisha would rather have Rohan reject her than the other way around. You see, her dishonesty is merely an expression of compassion. This is Luv Ranjan being progressive.<br/><br/>Never mind that Rohan, like his Kartik Aaryan-esque predecessors, decides to turn her predicament into a game. At stake is the incorruptible Indian idea of marrying not just the person, but also the family. In the pink corner lies Rohan’s courage to go from cold Casanova to heartbreaking martyr, and his pride of being a Momma’s Boy. In the blue corner lies Nisha’s reluctance to sacrifice her own ambitions at the altar of Rohan’s Barjatya-shaped love. There can be only one winner. At one point, he subjects Nisha to a sexist rant about women and jobs – except that he’s only pretending to be a horrible man. He’s pretending to be a Kabir Singh so that nobody blames her. For a moment, I was almost impressed by Luv Ranjan’s self-awareness to use toxic masculinity as a smokescreen.

I starring Chiyaan Vikram, Amy Jackson, Santhanam, Suresh Gopi, Ramkumar, Upen Patel, Powerstar Srinivasan, Yogi Babu and Ojas Rajani.<br/>I, the film, has three distinct acts. The first is of Lingesan (Vikram) obsessing over supermodel Diya (Amy Jackson), who smiles down at him from billboards and through the television and in newspapers. His fascination for her results in some bizarre manifestations like the song sequence where his handset and motorcycle (and even a fish in a supermarket) take Diya’s form.<br/><br/>When he is not being just a tad bit leery, Lingesan trains at Arnold Gym (very subtle nod to his idol) to prepare for the Mr. Tamil competition. When a bulky rival tries to scare him away, Lingesan challenges him to beat him at his game and not ask him to back away like a woman. (Bombast dialogue = 1. Notions of gender = 0). The competition plays with the standard masala humourthroughsongs like ‘Made in India’ and ‘Marhaba’to jolt you out of the staleness-induced stupor.<br/><br/><br/>There is a fight scene after that with a few muscled competitors and the hero, because winning graciously is a lost art on them. After punches and bodies fly thick through the air, there is a moment when the men regroup on the hero to jiggle their moobs at him. That is only beginning of the cringe-worthy scenes that are to follow.<br/>Meanwhile, Diya is constantly badgered by her co-model John (Upen Patel) for a date. She does not comply and he uses his clout to remove her from key assignments. Act 2 has Diya grooming Lingesan into Lee, a more enticing professional counterpart. Here, the makers throw in a transgender makeup artist (Ojas M Rajani), the stereotyping making the most hardened viewer recoil. Act 3 features a gruesome sabotage of the hero’s appearance, which morphs into a revenge drama. Lingesan, seething, disfigured and vengeful, will give it as good as he has gotten.<br/><br/><br/>I may not have an original concept, but a less tiresome execution could have worked immensely in its favour. The beginning may seem made with the quintessential flair of a standard potboiler, but the sequences shot in China are truly breathtaking. This happens in Act 2,when the proceedings are still light and Diya-Lee team up for a perfume advertisement. A fight scene shot on the rooftops, with murderous cyclists, is the only one that stands out in the entire film.<br/>Despite being a love story, the romance angle is uninspired. Diya does not seem drawn to Lingesan, except for his machismo.<br/><br/><br/>The dramatic scenes in the latter half of the film are heavy-handed and replete with ham moments that could give a butcher a complex. Lavishly shot song sequences to dot the narrative, end up stretching the film’s running time and the audience’s patience. Despite some stunning visuals, the songs offer little by way of melody.<br/><br/>Even Santhanam, as Lingesan’s friend, can do little to lighten up the dull story. A MAN claims he has created a car that might solve the world’s traffic congestion problems. Rick Woodbury from Spokane, Washington USA, is the president, founder and sole employee of ‘Commuter Cars.’ The carmaker’s flagship model is the 2005 super slim two-seater Tango T600, a high-performance electric car that preceded Tesla. Rick told us: “I started this company 21 years ago – it was based on an idea that I came up with in 1982.” He was inspired by the shocking traffic congestion he had to face on a daily basis. “I used to drive a Porsche from Beverly Hills to Hermosa Beach every day and the traffic was horrendous,” explained Rick. What really made Rick think about a solution was the fact that in most of the cars he would see in his commute were occupied by lone drivers. “I noticed that everybody around me was a single occupant in a car, taking up the whole lane,” Rick said. Living and working in Los Angeles also helped inspire Rick’s unique creation. “I thought, everyone wants to get from point A to point B efficiently, and in cities like Los Angeles there’s really no centre, there’s no hub, everybody goes everywhere,” explained Rick. For him, there is a simple solution, and that is reducing the width that vehicles take up on the road so that 2 can fit comfortably in a single lane. “I don’t think there’s any other answer except doubling lane capacity,” said Rick. With a length of 102 inches this micro car can be parked just about anywhere, just like you would with a motorbike. Rick said: “The length is the same width of a semi-truck so I can park perpendicular to the curb.”The selling point of this vehicle is that it can drive in-between cars better than any other car. “The coolest feature for me to that it can get through traffic faster than any car in history,” said Rick. Much like a motorbike, the Tango T500 can drive right up to the stop line of traffic lights.
